Did You Notice Firehouse’s Don’t Close On Holiday’s?

Monday, December 22nd, 2008 5:08pm MST

We all hear the stories about our military men and women serving Our Country around the world and see them giving Holiday Greeting’s on TV.  That is good, and I would not take anything away from the media calling our attention to that.  It is a great service, and our men and women deserve to be acknowledged for the great things they do on our behalf.

Often times we forget about Firemen, Policemen, and EMS folks who spend the Holiday’s away from their families so that they can be ready to respond to our emergencies. When you have an emergency and you dial 9-1-1, what if you were greeted with business hour’s and holiday closure’s instead of “9-1-1 what is your emergency?”  And if someone was breaking into your house and the Police dispatcher told you there would not be an officer available until tomorrow at 3 p.m.?  Please take a few minute’s to think about these men and women who serve our communities, and although they are with their work families they don’t get to spend the holiday’s at home. Maybe you could stop by a Firehouse and wish the Firemen Merry Christmas, maybe even take them a plate of cookies and let them know how much you appreciate them. Or make a non-emergent call to the Police or Sheriffs Dept. and tell them you appreciate (most of the time) what they do.

Warm and Windy Saturday, Bone-Chilling Cold and Snow Sunday

Saturday, December 13th, 2008 5:54am MST

Saturday will make you wonder ifSundays weather could really be as nasty as is forecast? The short answer is yes! With forecast high temp’s in the mid 60’s and windy Saturday, we could find it hard to believe that we could be looking at much colder temp’s and snow when we get up Sunday morning. But it is true the strong winds today are ahead of an Arctic Front that will move through the area late tonight/early tomorrow morning bringing very cold temperatures and snow. The overnight low is forecast to be in the lower teen’s with 1″ or 2″ of snow before sunrise Sunday, gusty North winds will bring some blowing and drifting snow. During the day Sunday it looks as though the temp’s will be nearly constant in the lower to mid teen’s most of the day, With added snow accumulation of 1to3 inches expected. If you have lived in the area any time at all you know that means we could see a little snow or 6 to 8 inches depending on where you live, so be prepared!

Friday and Saturday Good Day’s to Work on Your Christmas Shopping List’s

Friday, December 12th, 2008 6:46am MST

Friday brings a mix of cloud’s and sun with a forecast high temp of 46 and Saturday brings sun and light wind’s with a forecast high of 57. Both day’s look to be good opportunities to finish up some of the Christmas shopping you have been putting off, or like myself it might be a good time get started. With record breaking snow in the South and a disabling ice storm in the Northeast as well as a strong storm moving into the Northwest we have some of the better weather in the country. But the bottom drops out Saturday night and Sunday the storm front is expected to move through after mid-night Saturday with temp’s dropping into the teens and snow fall beginning. Sunday temp’s probably won’t get out of the teens and snow fall is expected to be in the 1″ to 3″ range. So Sunday could be a good day to do some Christmas baking.

The Weather Roller Coaster Continues Sunday, Monday And Tuesday

Sunday, December 7th, 2008 5:13am MST

The weather ups and downs continue for the Front Range and Urban Corridor with the high temperature to reach the mid to upper 60’s Sunday with west wind between 14 and 18 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Then increasing clouds, with a low around 32 overnight and light winds of 5 to 10 mph. Undoubtedly the highway’s into ski country will be crowded with folk’s headed up to enjoy the great snow that the ski areas received last week.

Monday the cool temp’s arrive and a 60 % chance for snow, at this point the NWS is forecasting an accumulation of around an inch possible. Overnight Monday a low of 19 and a 70% chance of snow. The amount of snow depends on your location in and around the Metro-Plex or along the Urban Corridor as you know if you have lived here any time at all there can be a big difference in snow amounts depending on your location. There can be 4 to 6 inches of snow in the Arvada and Golden areas and only a trace at DIA.

Tuesday remains cool and wet with a high near freezing and a 30% chance of moisture. Then Tuesday we recover with forecast high’s in the mid to upper 40’s, so all in all a very typical week of Colorado weather.

Dress Warm If You Are Going To Chase Those Black Friday Bargain’s

Friday, November 28th, 2008 4:41am MST

If you are planning on an early attack on the shopping mall’s then you best dress for chilly temperature’s. With a forecast high temperature of 43 degree’s and increased humidity it is going to be cold while you wait for those door’s to open this morning, as for me any shopping done today will most likely be at this keyboard. The road’s should remain in great shape in and around the Denver Metro area with very little in the way of snow in the forecast, there is a chance of a flurry or two this afternoon but nothing real serious. There is some snow lingering in the High Country but travel to the ski areas looks to be in good shape at this time.

Thanksgiving Day Cloudy, Chilly and A Chance of Rain/Snow

Thursday, November 27th, 2008 4:03am MST

Looks like a good day to stay inside and enjoy family and friends and maybe even gobble up a bit more than you should (you can diet tomorrow). The forecast high for today is 37 with cloudy sky’sand a 30% chance of snow in the morning and a 30% chance of rain/snow for the afternoon and into the evening. The 3:00 a.m. temperature’s around Northeastern Colorado where in the 28 to 32 degree range so we won’t see a whole lot of warming today. With a high temperature at this station yesterday of 65 and a forecast high today of 37 it is going to be a huge change. At this point it appears that the bulk of the snow is going to remain in the mountains, that is good news for those of you looking at getting some skiing in this weekend.

The Days Leading Up To Thanksgiving Will Be Very Pleasant

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008 7:13am MST

If you were to look around the Nation you would see a lot of snow and cold in the Northeast and Upper Midwest, Cold temperature’s in the Southeast and Dry windy conditions in the West with huge distructive wild-land fire’s in California. Then you re-focus on Colorado and you can see why so many people move here.

The forecast for Monday thru Wednesday mostly sunny with the high temp’s in the mid to upper 50’s and the overnight lows in the upper 20’s and lower 30’s. The forecast for Thanksgiving Day doe’s have the chance of rain/snow but it doe’s not appear to be real serious at this time, the system that will be moving across our area Thanksgiving Day is very disorganized at this point. But we will keep you posted as the week plays out.

The Sun Stages A Comeback Friday With The Promise Of Warmer Temperatures For The Weekend

Friday, November 21st, 2008 4:24am MST

With an overnight low temperature in the lower 20’s, the sun and warmer temperature’s are going to be a welcome change form the cloudy chilly day that we experienced Thursday. The sun and the warmer temp’s are forecast to hang around through the weekend with a forecast high in the mid 60’s for Saturday and back into the lower 50’s for Sunday with ample sunshine both day’s. The wind could pickup later this afternoon but so far nothing that would require the posting of warning’s.

New Record High Temperature for Tuesday Likely And New High Temp For November Possible

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008 5:04am MST

The record high temperature for today is 74 which we will probably easily break and the record high for the month of November is 80 which we could see topped as well. With a high temp at ArvadaWX yesterday of 77.6 the probability of temp’s in excess of 80 degree’s are most likely. The down side of this unusually warm weather and very little moisture and very low dew point is the fire danger along the Front Range and in the Foothills, so lets hope and pray that the winds don’t pickup. There is a change coming overnight Wednesday so watch for temp’s to drop. It is still to early to tell what if any moisture will come along with the chill.

Sundays Weather Will Be Much Like Yesterday, Rain And Snow Possible Monday

Sunday, November 9th, 2008 5:49am MST

Yesterday’s forecast and model’s called for rain showers this afternoon with a change to rain/snow mix tonight into tomorrow. Well that forecast has changed due to the moisture decidingto go to the south of our forecast area, big surprise right!  Now we are looking at a 20% chance of rain/snow mix later tonight, and an increase to 50% chance of rain/snow Monday with a forecast high temperature Monday of 40 degree’s. At this point it looks like new snow accumulation of less than a half inch is expected, but I remind you that this is Colorado and you need to be prepared for winter weather at all times. Monday night the chance of percipitation drops to 30 % with a forecast low of 28.
